The poisoning of fluoroquinolone is caused by antibiotics. It can result in grave side effects like nausea vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, depression, and psychosis. This is also referred to as Floxing.
Patients who have suffered negative side effects from an antibiotic that contains fluoroquinolone/quinolone must stay away from fluoroquinolones. The elderly, those over 65 who suffer from kidney disease or who’ve been the recipient of an organ transplant, should be treated with special care.
Fluoroquinolones account for nearly all quinolone antibacterials. They contain an atom of fluorine and are effective against Gram negative as well as Gram positive bacteria.
Fluoroquinolones kill bacteria through blocking enzymes that normally untangle DNA during the process of cell reproduction. Usually, these enzymes cut DNA’s double-helix, move another portion of the string through the gap and then mend the cut.
However, quinolones are able to bind to enzymes, stopping them from healing their wounds. Researchers added fluorine atoms during the 1980s to enhance the structure of the quinolones. The fluorine atoms allowed the antibiotics penetrate the body’s tissues as well as the central nervous system and increased their efficacy against a wide range of bacterial diseases.”

But, fluoroquinolones are often overused just like other antibiotics. A number of FDA warnings have been issued to restrict the usage of fluoroquinolones.
